A lotus flower sprouted from a 600-year-old seed has bloomed in China. The flower was grown from ancient seeds discovered at a construction site which, according to a carbon dating test, date from either the Yuan (1271-1368) or Ming (1368-1644) dynasties.

Lotus seeds are particularly resilient thanks to a dense skin, which seals them off from the elements. The flower is on display at the Hefei Botanical Garden, though visitors have been urged to hurry if they wish to see it, as lotus flowers only bloom for a few days. Read more: wantchinatimes.com
