Converted from public housing units in a hilly corner of Kowloon, this heritage youth hostel has everything you need: a laundry, on-site convenience store, immaculate rooms and dorm-style lodgings, lockers with inbuilt chargers and an excellent bar-restaurant, House 41. It even has a museum. The price is high for a hostel, however.
Mei Ho House was among the first batch of resettlement blocks built to house the 58,000 homeless survivors of a devastating blaze, known commonly as the 'Shek Kip Mei Fire', that broke out in 1953. As such, it marks the beginning of Hong Kong’s public-housing policy.
Since 2018, the hostel is also the headquarters of the Hong Kong Youth Hostelling Association, where you can purchase membership.
