La Libertad has some of the best waves rolled out by the Pacific Ocean. Surf aside, this seaside town does have flashes of gritty vitality - the market, lone fishermen plying the rocky shoreline, and bucketloads of dried, diced and just plain dead fish - all emitting a pungent, salty smell.
