The volcano Pico do Fogo in the Cape Verde islands continues to erupt, causing hundreds of people living nearby to be evacuated. The area around the volcano is a popular hiking destination for tourists and people are still venturing close to the scene to observe the geologic phenomenon. A kilometre-wide lava flow has now destroyed some 20 homes. The mountain last erupted in 1995. Read more: bbc.co.uk
