One of the best museums in the Basque Country, San Telmo Museoa's thought-provoking collection explores Basque history and culture in all its complexity. Exhibitions are spread between the restored convent and a cutting-edge newer wing that blends into its plant-lined backdrop of Mount Urgull. The collection ranges from historical artifacts to classical art, with paintings in Sala V by El Greco, Tintoretto and Elena Brockmann de Llanos. San Telmo also stages outstanding temporary exhibitions tackling contemporary issues.
Labeling is in Spanish, Basque and English, but free audio guides are available in other languages. The museum is closed on Mondays.
